Vitamin deficiencies and Effects

Vitamins and minerals are very essential elements of our body. Several types of vitamins are required for growth and body functions. The article Vitamin deficiencies and Effects will explain the deficiency diseases of vitamins. The vitamins are not produced in our body, we all getting it from food sources. The nutritious foods are the main source of vitamin and minerals. The deficiency of these minerals causes deficiency diseases.

The absorption of food reduces with age due to this deficiency disease develop in older persons means deficiency increases with the age. Hormonal imbalance is also a reason for vitamin deficiency.

Vitamin A deficiency:

Vitamin A is essential for eye health. It also affects the reproductive system of women and men both. It also has an important role in the build-up and strengthening of the immune system. The main sources of vitamin A are egg, coloured vegetables and fruits, meat, fish and dairy products.

The deficiency of Vitamin A causes night blindness, infections like throat, chest and abdomen, fertility issues, growth issues in children etc.

Vitamin B-1 deficiency:

Vitamin B-1 is also a very for our body. It is important for the nervous system and helps in metabolism. Deficiency results weight loss, fatigue, short term memory loss, and nerve and muscle damage. The main sources of Vitamin-B1 are egg, cereals, nuts, seeds, wheat, meat,fish and pork.

Vitamin B-3 deficiency: 

It is also very important vitamin for our body, mild deficiency of B3 causes digestive problems, fatigue and cancer sores. Long time and severe deficiency cause a disease called pellagra. The pellagra having symptoms of dementia and diarrhea. The sources of B-3 are yeast, meat,  red fish (tuna, salmon), poultry, cereals, legumes, milk, green leafy vegetables, coffee, and tea.

Vitamin B-9 deficiency: 

 Vitamin B-9 helps to in production of red blood cells. It also helps in the production of DNA. It is also helpful for the development of brain and nervous system. It is very essential for pregnant women because it plays very important role in the formation and development of fetus brain and spinal cord. Its deficiency may cause severe birth defects, anemia and growth problems.

The main sources of Vitamin B-9 are Dark green leafy vegetables, sprouts, broccoli, peanuts, beans, fruits, seafood, egg, grains  meats, and pork.

Vitamin B-12 deficiency: 

Vitamin B-12 supports the body in making enough healthy red blood cells. A deficiency of this may cause pernicious anemia. It is common in people with autoimmune disorders and inflammatory or digestive diseases.

The symptoms of B-12 deficiency involve dizziness, fatigue and weakness in the extremities, shortness of breath, weight loss, pale or yellowish skin, nausea or poor appetite, sore, red, or swollen tongue.

If overlook the deficiency then it may cause damage to the nervous system. The symptoms are difficulty walking, muscle weakness. Irritability, dementia, depression, memory loss. The red meat and animal products are the best sources of Vitamin B-12.Vegetarian sources include milk, cheese and nutritional yeast.

Vitamin D deficiency: 

The utmost essential Vitamin, it is essential for healthy bones. The main function to help the body for maintaining the right levels of calcium to regulate the development teeth and bones.

A deficiency of this can reduce the bone growth and cause porous and fragile bones. Few foods like fish liver oil, egg yolks and mushrooms are Vitamin D enriched. Sunlight is the best source of vitamin D. 5-30 minutes sun exposure can provide enough vitamin D.
